Title: The Way of Integrity
Subtitle: Finding the Path to Your True Self
Author: Martha Beck
Publisher: Piatkus, 2021
Summary: Do you honour your values, or do you stifle your true self to conform to the culture around you? Using Dante’s The Divine Comedy as her inspiration, Beck guides readers onto the path of integrity as they proceed into the inferno and out the other side. The big challenge of the book is to have a period of No Lying.
Comments: That means that if this book sucked, I’d say so. Instead, I’ve found it a challenging read. The exercises (which I’ve done as I’ve read along) are thought-provoking. As a Christian, I struggle with some of Beck’s ideas. While they often inspire me, at other times they’re thought-provoking: Am I limiting myself through my Christian worldview? How can I be true to my faith while also being open-minded? As a teenager, the issues that challenge me were black and white. Now, I see shades of grey everywhere. I’ve come to love considering these issues and finding a way forward, a way where I live with integrity.
