A Mother with a lot of Faith.
This story is out of the heart of a grieving Mother.
Part one of three.
But He said to me, “My Grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
Me & My Husband was Blessed with 5 beautiful children. 4 Daughters and 1 son.
Both of us took the Lord as our savior long ago. Even though we had a lot of Faith, our Faith was still tested. But we stood standing through God’s Grace.
Sometimes God will put pressure in your life to test you and when you succeed you will move forward in your life. He will bring people and situations into your life that will seem like sandpaper, they will scratch & scrape you but He uses them to make your sharp edges smooth.
In May 2007 the carpet got ripped from under us, our 3rd eldest daughter Sonja aged 28y was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was married and had 3 beautiful sons.
Little did we know what was coming.
In 2weeks time we had to pack up everything and move to Port Elizabeth where they live so that we can support them.
We were all in shock, busy with our own thoughts and questions…
The day arrived that she had to go for her first operation. When she came out of theatre it was confirmed that she had a mastectomy of one breast 12 glands were removed wich 9 was active.
Then came all the visits to the oncologist and the chemos and radiation.
Sonja never complained she suffered in silence; she was a soft humble person.
Sometimes the treatment made her so sick that her blood count was so low that she was hospitalized. Sometimes even in isolation.
Our lives evolved around Praying in faith to fight for her life.
Many times I had to take over the household, 3 young boys needed to be looked after and her husband still needed to work.
Unconsciously Sonja started to slowly “wean”her sons off of her, we only realised it afterwards. She knew her time wasn’t much.
Through all of this she encouraged her fellow patients.
She was ill for 3years and 6 months.
Friday morning 5 Nov. 2010 we were on our way to the hospital again. Her husband let us know we must bring her boys as well.
When we entered the room the boys went in 1 by 1 and sat on the bed with their mommy.
She said her goodbyes to each adding the heartfelt words “mommy is so sorry, but remember I will always live in your hearts”
Later that morning she went to be with Jesus. She completed her life race that she kept up so well. Our hearts were torn in pieces.
God is big enough to heal every peace of pain and brokenness, big or small.
Trust Him with your brokenness.
In times of struggle you can know that His grace is big enough to carry you through.
